Sajjan deliberately paused – he was happy about Rajasaab’s growing curiosity and interest in his project. “The first sample, opium of another breed was grown here – in one of the fields of Dheemapur. The other sample of opium – the breed you grow – was grown at the location where our project is planned and needs to be finalized.”

“Consider it finalized. I agree to your terms and conditions. Nothing left to discuss or debate now.” Rajasaab, was now wanting to go all out and run this project which would yield such a high profit. He laughed within at Sajjan’s demand of just 2% of profit share.

“Here we go”, Sajjan was satisfied about the agreement and involvement of Rajasaab, “The location of this project is in north eastern region of the country. It’s a massive land, lush green and perfect soil for the growth of this product. It’s covered entirely by a blanket of thick forest on various hills of various heights. The region is secluded as there are four wild life sanctuaries bordering each side, thus, keeping it away from any prying eyes of any officials and the thick forest protects the region from the prying eyes of any satellite. The soil is perfect to yield the highest quality of opium, unparalleled in the world. The plantations will have a natural camouflage of the dense jungle and protection from each side due to wild life sanctuaries. It’s almost impossible for anyone to reach there on foot.” Rajasaab was almost imagining the view of the region as Sajjan continued, “The jungle is full of fierce tribes who are extremely loyal to anyone who can provide them with daily bread and butter. Once they are won over to our side, believe me, nothing in this world can stop us from achieving the profit figure I have worked out.”

“Go on.” Rajasaab was speechless.

“We can, not only grow our produce there but also can strategically position our processing units – out of anyone’s sight. The processed produce can then be carried across the border into Bhutan across a narrow border that is unmanned by any security force. You have a wood processing unit in Bhutan, very close to this border and you do export lot of wooden logs – some of them hollow, carrying your illegal produce within.” Sajjan smiled triumphantly at Rajasaab.

“Are you sure there would be no hitches of any kind? I understand that the place is infested with militants.”

“We can take care of those petty issues – like the local tribes – we can win over their trust – you leave that to me. The militants there are belligerent and absolutely cross with local politicians, but then, you already have dealt with them few years ago and worked up a truce with promise of development in the area. This is the time to fulfil your promise. Also, this will be the test of your political clout. What I understand is, the militants still are full of respect for you and are looking forward to development in the area – if you agree to share a negligible share of your profit with them – you have an entire force of the militants ready to protect our interest under the garb of militancy.”

“A well thought plan – Mr. Sajjan.” Rajasaab was absolutely happy and satisfied even as Sajjan presented him the facts and figures, “I now have a tremendous respect for a saint like you.” Sajjan had a smile of satisfaction on him. He knew that everything was going as per his plan.

“When are you planning to leave Dheemapur to work on this project?”

“I’m leaving on 15th of this month which is about a week from now.”

“Is it possible for you to leave on 16th instead?”

“Why?”

“Every year on the 15th of this particular month, I throw a grand party to all the so called eminent investors who work for me. First we discuss, review last year and plan for the coming year. Sharp at 8pm we have dinner coupled with the best of the drinks after which, beautiful ladies entertain my guests. I’ll love if you could attend that party and present this project to them.”

“There are reasons for me to avoid this party. Maybe, I can be a part of it next year.” Sajjan then switched over to a cautious tone, “It takes almost 15 days to travel to that region, provided there are no delays. In the first week of next month, the tribes there gather for their internal trade activities. If I reach there on time – I will be able to meet up all the tribes at one go – will save us precious time communicating with each tribe. Secondly, we are yet to begin our base work and I am sceptical about more people getting involved in this project. Your political rivals, I’m sure, know that I’m here at the moment in a meeting with you. They would be curious to know what this meeting was for and there are moles in every field.”

“Hmm – didn’t think of it. So, what’s you plan, How are you going to hide what we have discussed?”

Sajjan’s smile was one tongue in cheek. “Nobody knows that you invited me here. Everyone thinks I approached you. Let us spread the news that I’m concerned about the state of living – of the tribes in Gadhchiroli along with the rising popularity of The Naxalites, I want to work and bring in some development in the area bringing in peace to those people. I’ll be travelling there and sending you a feasibility report for the developmental plan and that you have promised me that you will table it during the parliamentary sessions for approval.”

“Why would anyone believe this?”
