Sajjan reached the bridge as per agreed time. He had to wait for few minutes before the vehicle arrived. He had been attending quite a few farmer meets in the morning and these few minutes gave him the opportunity to double check the points he wanted to discuss with Rajasaab – if, the meeting went the way he wanted.
Sure enough, Rajasaab was equally looking forward to meet up with him. He had lots of questions about Sajjan and wanted answers. He was patiently waiting for Sajjan to arrive when Devadatta and Rana approached him, a bit agitated.
Rajasaab looked at the duo and raised an eyebrow enquiring about their concern even as they saw the vehicle approaching the farmhouse.
“Later.” Rajasaab said. Now intently looking at a tall, stout person in his forties get out of the vehicle and walk with a confident grace toward them.
“He is Sajjan.” Deva informed.
Sajjan approached them and there was a momentary silence, both trying to read each other’s thoughts.
“Welcome Mr. Sajjan”, Rajasaab finally broke the calculated silence between them, “I hope you like the tiny setup I own. Let’s have a cup of tea before we start any discussion.” he waived at someone to serve tea for them.
“That’s very modest of you”, Sajjan said looking around in awe at the impressive farmhouse, “No wonder – people keep whispering about this fabulous place.” Sajjan said as he sipped on the tea his eyes wandering around the impressive farmhouse.
Rajasaab smiled at the praise by Sajjan.
‘Hmm.’ He thought. ‘This guy is no saint. He has an appreciative eye and he looks impressed by the richness of this place. He knows what kind of comforts money can buy.’ His tone now changed from warm welcome to cool and calculated businessman, his practical mind on full alert.
“What brings a saint like you to such an ordinary place like Dheemapur?”
“The place where you reside cannot be ordinary. In fact, Amar invited me here to help his fellow farmers with my knowledge of soil, farming and cattle rearing. He met me when I was addressing a group of people who had gathered at the ‘Countrywide Farmers’ Meet. He requested and I agreed.”
“I haven’t seen any development around here. You have been here almost over two months now.”
“You know this very well, Rajasaab that any development takes its own time to yield the fruit. You got to involve the local people, get them to agree. Only then can the plan be put to action. I have worked on a plan that will yield three times the normal harvest.”
“Oh! That’s impressive. Tell me if you need any sort of help to complete your plan.”
“That’s so kind of you Rajasaab.”
“Please don’t mention it. Like you, I have vowed to spend my life, uplifting the downtrodden.”
“I very well know that Rajasaab.” Sajjan said in a tone that made Rajasaab curious as well alert at the same time. ‘What does this guy know about me?’ he thought to himself. Sajjan continued, “I tried meeting you about six months ago when you were in the Capital attending the parliamentary sessions.”
“Oh! I didn’t know that – else – I would have met you then. What help do you want of me at Dheemapur?”
“No. I don’t need your help here.” Sajjan said with a deliberation, “I will definitely need a lot of your help to accomplish my next project. Without you – it’s an impossible project.”
Rajasaab understood that Sajjan had something of his interest up his sleeve and was now ready to let the cat out of the bag. “Go on … Please let me know about it.”
Sajjan paused and looked at Devadatta and Rana who were standing behind Rajasaab who took the cue and waived them to go out and stand out of any hearing distance. They walked to the edge of the massive lawn and stood under the shade of a tree behind Sajjan keeping a watch, if Sajjan made any move to harm Rajasaab.
“Go on.” Rajasaab smiled at Sajjan, “Now there is nobody to hear what we say.”
“Rajasaab”, Sajjan’s voice was low but loud enough for Rajasaab to hear him clearly, “I have worked out a development plan at a remote location in one of the corners of the country.”
“You do know that I’m a political leader in this country and my base is here at Dheemapur. Why not choose a local political leader?”
“Rajasaab.” Sajjan said in a tone which made Rajasaab even more curious, “When I thought of this project – I studied every possibility in deep. I have done a lot of ground work, collected all the required information, have run this plan over and over again – There are No Loopholes – I have double checked many times and I want this project to succeed. I did study a lot of political leaders of your stature and I know – it’s possible only if you are involved.”
