The next few months passed by quickly. Chaits was busy preparing for his finals – he was going to make it big – he had to… He knew of Priti’s expensive taste and wanted to reach a level where he could afford it. The spare time – if any, was always wonderful as he spent time with Priti and with the group.

Soon the exams were over and it was time for Chaits to move on. He was supposed to move out on Tuesday and he knew he had to spend time with everyone…

It was Friday and Priti’s dad had invited her group to share an evening with him.

The bell rang and Chaits saw Priti standing at the door – smiling. She had a parcel in her hand.

“Hey! What’s this?” asked Chaits looking at the parcel in her hand.

Priti entered and kept the parcel on the sofa, “Surprize!”

She opened the parcel to uncover at least 10 sets of formal clothing.

“Hey! What’s this for?” asked Chaits.

“This is my wish I want you to wear these when you go to work – these will always remind you of me (she winked) and this way all my best wishes would remain with you – always” she hugged him.

“Wow! Priti! These brands are all expensive formals and I know they cost a bomb to own these” Priti simply stopped him say any further by pressing her lips against his…

“Remember Chaits, these would bring luck – always, as I’ll always be you praying for your success – and don’t think of the cost… my emotions are priceless – further – when we marry, I’m going to recover this cost – a multiple times and with interest…”

Chaits was elated at the thought of life after marrying Priti.

“You are going to wear this combination today” she said searching out a pair for him, “I want you to impress my dad and your prospective father-in-law”

Chaits had never been so nervous in any competition or when appearing for any competitive exams, but this meeting?  He simply could not fail…

‘Pinky must know her father well – else she would not have insisted on this combination of formal attire’ thought Chaits and dressed up in the combination Priti had selected.

Once ready, he closed his eyes and murmured a prayer for success to this meeting with Priti’s dad.

Priti gave an appreciative look and kissed him “This is my wish that you be successful today”

She quickly called up others to know what time they were going to show up. Then she led Chaits and they drove off toward her home. The group was already waiting for them at the corner that was pre-decided. Nobody knew where she stayed and did feel guilty of the fact that she was their closest among friends, belonged to the group – yet no one knew the address to her home… They met at the corner and the rest followed her car as she led the way to her home. Everyone was awed at the palatial houses that passed them as they approached. She stopped in front of a huge gate and honked… A security opened the gate… As the gate opened they saw a huge, well maintained lawn garden between the driveway and huge palatial structure. She drove in and parked the car in a huge parking lot where a number of expensive cars were already parked…

“C’mon in guys!” said Priti.

Everyone was tense. Priti really was filthy rich. Chaits looked around at the grandeur and gulped. He was tense now. His mind was calculating the amount of hard work he’d have to put in to reach this status… He had a short meeting one on one with Mr Patel and was happy that Mr Patel approved the wedding on the condition that Priti would complete her graduation in 2 years – and he would have to prove his worth till then…

Before Chaits left for Bangalore, he and Priti spent a romantic Sunday at Jungle Homes. Entire next day was spent by his group at his place helping him pack his things. And the evening they had a great farewell party at Go Bananas where Chaits treated everyone. Fortunately, being odd day, the place was not crowded and the party went smoothly.

When Chaits boarded the bus that would take him to the airport at Mumbai… it was a very difficult moment for everyone. Priti couldn’t control her tears as the bus vanished out of sight knowing it was going to be long before she saw Chaits again.

Chaits was in two minds…. He did not want to leave Priti and his friends, but, life was beckoning him to explore the new world. He knew of hard work that lay ahead if he wanted to cater to Priti’s expensive taste after they married. So he steeled his mind and set out to conquer the world, to make a man of himself so that he could keep Priti happy.

Little did he know what life had in store for him…

Chaits landed at Bangalore… He was relieved that his organisation had made good arrangement for him to stay for a month before he could find his own accommodation…

Time flew as he struggled to grasp the workload at office and finding suitable accommodation in the evenings. He also was trying hard to get accustomed to new set of friends who were his colleagues. He wished he would have brought his bike along as the travel in search of an accommodation – the city was not only expensive, it consumed a lot of time.

The only solace was receiving emails from his friends and those special emails from Priti. He was always dejected that the internet cafe’ used to close early and he was not able to reply.

Finally, he started penning down his replies and posting them to his friends. Finally luck smiled on him as one of his colleagues bagged a long project at Wichita, Kansas, USA. He moved in his place which was a cosy flat in Koramangla sector 4…

Now he had ample time to chat with Priti and his friends via internet. The call rates for interstate mobile communication had also had dropped drastically thus making an allowance for him to call and speak his heart out to Priti once in a while…

For six months, Chaits took only 2 leaves. Once, to visit his parents on their wedding anniversary then a long weekend to meet Priti on her birthday.

The rest of time, he worked hard toward the goal he had set for his life. Soon his hard work reaped rewards as he started growing in the organisation. In about 6 months he was promoted to the post of Group Leader with an exclusive compensation package…

The scope of work and the workload grew with the position. He used to spend half the time flying across India to various project development centres – meeting plans – discussing the progress. His friend circle among colleagues grew as he now had set of friends in every city he visited.

Priti used to keep guessing which city he would call from next. One day Chaits called her to inform that he would be at Delhi for an year or two…  Now – at least for once she would not have to guess now and Chaits would also have some rest…

One thing that Chaits had followed religiously wherever he visited was regular exercise to keep fit however his sport had changed over to indoor games like tennis and pistol shooting. He still was quick on his feet and his box had the same strength to knock out anyone… He also caught up on martial arts he hadn’t followed for long…

Then came the news of him being promoted to the post of Asst. Project Manager that his salary grew in leaps & bounds – so did his workload. Now he was supposed to go on short trips abroad to visit the clients. His success was lauded by one of all in his unit and Priti was very excited. She knew Chaits was now inching toward the level he wanted so as to marry her.

After all, they all were approaching final year of their education. The wedding arrangements were already on and there were lots of activities at Payal & Chaps homes. Priti was an integral part and invited at both places and used to return home – her eyes full of dreams and confusion. She weaved a lot of dreams for her wedding and then used to get confused as to which one to follow…
