Chaits was up early that Saturday. He wanted to meet this girl – Tanvi. He had known Guru all his life and was sure that Guru wasn’t someone who would fall in love with any normal girl – she had to be special. He was curious as to how she had managed to win his love.

He loved driving his car and didn’t bother Guru who constantly peeped into his mobile chatting with Tanvi. Instead, he enjoyed his drive to Pune…

They had a warm welcome from her parents. She wasn’t around. She was visiting one of her uncle recovering from a mild heart attack. They patiently chatted with her parents. Chaits was feeling hungry. Their plan was to pick Tanvi up from her home and have lunch at one of the restaurants. Then roam around in Pune, drop her back and drive back to Mumbai.

Chaits tapped Guru’s lap in a bid to remind him of their plan.

Guru realized, “I guess she’s going to take some more time,” he said to her parents, “We will pick her up from her uncle’s place.”

They exited her bungalow and were about to sit in their car when Chaits saw a girl wearing a helmet on a scooter enter that bungalow.

“So sorry …” she said in an apologetic tone, “last minute emergency. Gimme about few minutes and I’ll join you.” She said and vanished before either of them could say anything.

They waited patiently for few long minutes before she reappeared at the door facing inside speaking to her parents.

“You better move into the back seat.” Chaits said nudging Guru, “Don’t want to play a spoil sport.”

Guru smiled at him a bit embarrassed and stepped out of the car. He opened the rear door to the back seat for Tanvi to enter and be settled next to him.

Chaits was cautious driving in this city where traffic had no sense of direction.

Amid their chat, Tanvi kept guiding him through lanes and by lanes. After a short tedious drive, their car entered into the parking lot of a decent restaurant.

“You go ahead & reserve our table while I park the car.” Chaits suggested and they agreed.

Chaits parked the car and hurried into the restaurant. He wanted to see and meet Tanvi. His curiosity was at its peak now.

Guru had managed to reserve a table for them in one of the corners near the pool in the restaurant. He waived at Chaits for his attention.

“Tanvi” Guru said even as Chaits settled in the chair next to him, facing her diagonally, “Meet my best friend – Chaits.” He then looked at her and nudged him, “Chaits – she is Tanvi.”

Tanvi looked at Chaits who looked blankly at her – seemingly lost. She was a bit confused at his reaction. She composed herself and smiled at Chaits.

“Hi! Chaits!” she said bringing him back from his lost world, “I wanted to meet you. Guru either speaks about his parents or he speaks about you – rarely, he mentions anyone else. I understand, like his parents, you are an integral part of his life.”

Chaits smiled back at her, “GOD wanted us to be born brothers. It seems something went wrong and we were born in different families. But the bond of brotherhood remained…”

She smiled and shook her head in wonder at this explanation and nodded in appreciation.

“That’s exactly what he told me.” she pointed at Guru and laughed.

They had a nice time chatting over the meal and Guru felt relieved that both Tanvi and Chaits seemed to be comfortable with each other and now friendly. They dropped her home enroute their drive back to Mumbai.

“So – how did you find her? … I mean what’s your reading about her?” Guru asked even as their car approached the diversion to the main highway.

“She’s gonna make a fabulous wife to you and I’m happy for you. I saw it in her eyes – she really loves you.”

Guru smiled at his reply. His concern about Chaits and Tanvi getting along together were dismissed. Both seemed to accept each other with their future roles in the lives once he married Tanvi.

“Chaits…” Guru asked, “I saw a lost expression on you when she said ‘Hi’ to you. Any specific reason?”

Chaits started laughing at this statement.

“Guru – I don’t think you even have noticed. I was blank for a moment because I found a striking similarity between her and Anjali – as far as looks are concerned.”

“I don’t think so.” Guru reacted, “and anyway, it’s seven years – I have forgotten how Anjali looked like…”

“Maybe that’s the reason. You very well know I was obsessed about Anjali. I thought of Anjali – day in and day out. I had tough time getting over those feelings of obsession. Her face still smiles at me whenever I think of any incident of our college life.”

“Hmm – maybe – that’s the reason you thought there’s a similarity between their faces.”

“No brother. Believe me the facial appearance is very similar – as if – they are sisters. Yes – there’s a difference. Anjali loved and used to sport long hair. Anjali was silent, shy type of a girl. Tanvi is matured and a confident girl. The personalities are quite different.”
