A smile appeared on Sajjan. His plan seemed to have worked well. His study about Rajasaab was correct. He wouldn’t try to harm him till he knew what Sajjan was up to. Sajjan was surprised at this invitation a bit. Rajasaab had been ruffled a bit too early than his anticipation. He put off his next meeting with a group of farmers and returned to Dheemapur bazaar. He inquired about the instruments and accessories he had ordered. He was happy that they already had been shipped and would be arriving in a day. On the way back to the outhouse, he picked up a fresh garland of jasmine, a naughty smile on his face.

As soon as he entered, Leela put her arms around him and kissed him long and sweet. They went on their regular stroll to the machan and returned a bit early. Once in bedroom they experienced another fit of sheer passion full of love and lust – this time without any exchange of any word of concern or remorse. She lay beside him, her head resting on his bare chest as his fingers ran delicately through her long hair.

“You seem to be concerned about something,”

“Sweetheart, I’m deeply concerned about the fact that during our love making – what if, you get pregnant?”  She started laughing much to his annoyance and laughed even more when she saw his annoyed look. “Sweetheart – I’m serious. I don’t want you getting pregnant.”

“Don’t you worry… Lajjo di has given me a bottle of pills. She said that if I take a pill after our lovemaking – I won’t get pregnant.”

“Thank GOD.” he heaved a sigh of relief and dozed off. Next day he left for a village near the dangerous jungle where he had planned a meeting with the farmers leaving a worried wife at home.

It wasn’t a long meeting and within a couple of hours of explaining them about the soil and what kind of crops had advantage, he started back early in the afternoon. He entered the bazaar and picked up the consignments of accessories and equipment he had ordered. Satisfied at the supply, he paid for those and proceeded on foot for the village that lay between Dheemapur and Rajapuri. Once there, he entered the wilderness between the main road and the railway line at Rajapuri halt. He fished out the equipment and the accessories – assembled them the way he had planned and hid them there. It was almost 10.30pm when he returned to the outhouse.

“How many times do I have to tell you that you got to return when its daylight – especially, when you visit places near that dangerous jungle. You got to remember that you got a loving wife waiting for your safe return.” she scolded him in a complaining tone. It was late in the night as they lay breathless beside each other.

“I want to ask you a personal question”

“Go ahead.”

She was running her soft palm over his chest and his back, “For a saint like you, I see you got many scars on your body. Few are downright ugly.”

“I told you that I work in remote locations and jungles. I meet good, bad and ugly people. Sometimes I meet dangerous animals. These mementoes have been gifted by them.”

“I hope you don’t have to work like this.”

“Don’t worry. There are only a few more projects left. Once they are done, I won’t have to do all this work. I plan to look for people like Amar, who would volunteer and help me in doing these. I plan to live a peaceful life then.”

“And when do you think you would start living peacefully?”

“That’s a difficult question. The current project is a short one. Other projects could take up to a year or so – each – maybe more.”

“This means you will keep working like this for many more years.”

“Not necessary. If I manage to get correct information, all these could be over & done with – within next five years…”

“That’s good.” she said satisfied with all his answers and dozed off in his loving arms.

He lay awake for some time thinking about his forthcoming meeting with Rajasaab, next afternoon. He ran the points he would discuss with Rajasaab over and over again till his mind refused to work further and he dozed off.
