The news on the TV blared about happenings in a city where a crowd of protestors had crossed all the limits of madness in their feeling of hate against a particular caste who they thought had all privileges.
A massive crowd of people who were demonstrating on the roads for few particular demands had gone on rampage and had attacked people of that particular caste. They had looted the shops and establishments owned by members of that particular caste and the situation had gone out of hands of the officials who were monitoring these demonstrations.
The hate had been sowed deep and in a structured manner in the hearts of these demonstrators over a period of years. All kinds of tactics and propaganda messages had been hammered to ignite such a hate in these masses of people who were demonstrating.
Suddenly, a group in the crowd became unruly and started pelting stones at authorities who were monitoring the demonstrations. The hell broke loose, the entire demonstration, supposed to be a peaceful one – turned into carnage. Various groups then attacked homes of people of the caste they hated. Somewhere all the control was lost. They burned down colonies where the people of this particular caste stayed in groups. This was late at night and most of the people had been sleeping. Many couldn’t get out to safety in time and were burnt alive in the inferno that raged in and around their colonies.
There was a huge concern that raised questions about the administration of the government who could only promise them inquiry into the occurrences. They could only promise that the wrong doers will be taken in by the law and punished legally.
The promises made by the government – remained – just a set of promises.
The people who were burnt alive never got any justice and the miscreants were never arrested. There were rumours among the people, accusing few politicians of engineering this carnage for their own political benefit…
Our story starts Five Years after this occurrence of sheer madness…
